Hawke's Bay Earthquake

Hawke's Bay Earthquake 

On the 3rd of February 1931, New Zealand had one of the deadliest earthquakes it went from Napier to Hastings 256 people had died from this disaster it was 7.8 on the Richter scale.  161 in Napier, 93 in Hastings, and 2 in Wairoa. 

Chief Justice/ today's history

Today in History James Prendergast announces that The Treaty of Waitangi "worthless" and "simple nullity". He was not a nice judge because he didn't want the Treaty of Waitangi to happen at all.

Jean Batten

What happened? 

Jean flew from kent all the way to New Zealand as a solo flight. Batten was already famous for her successful solo flights from England to Australia and to South America. 

She's known for Record breaking trans-world flights

What happened? 

 Polices arrested 18 people who had weapons-training camps just near Bay of Plenty. 

Jury's could not agree on the former charge, but all four were found guilty of firearms offenses.
